I had always been reliant on quotes and inspirational stories for encouragement towards life. Many of it taught me how to be optimistic towards life. It taught me how to never give up trying in times of failure. It taught me how to look at a different perspective of life. It taught me how to make choices. Yet, it was these teachings that allowed me to further believe that I should never stop trying and give up in my pursuit of happiness.
I was wrong. Quotes and inspirational stories in reality are just guides to life. Having more optimism does not equate to what you have in reality. Life is predestined. No matter how much optimism I can give towards something, if it isn't mine, no matter how hard I try, no matter how many different positive perspective I had to look at it, at the end of the day, it still wouldn't be mine. Optimism just allows me to fall deeper into my ideals. Giving up may not be a bad thing afterall.
Just hours ago, I was reading my archives. As much as I lost myself 2 years ago, I was a much more happier person. To just look at the world with the simplest mind, could make myself a much more happier person. I had learn to keep trying in the face of failure, it is now time to learn how to give up. Giving up my ideals, my wants, my needs and be contented with everything else that I already have in my life. That is the key to being happy. I don't need to be someone perfect, I don't need to have any worldly possessions, I don't have to need anything more than I have, I just have to be contented being myself.
In economics, the first thing we ever learned was on scarcity. Human wants are unlimited, but resources are finite. Hence, what we want may not be what we will have. So, instead of chasing after our unlimited wants, why not just relax and enjoy the fullest of the present.
The next time you read quotes and inspirational stories, bear this in your mind. Afterall, different life has different inspirations installed for us.
